We're all on a journey...
welcome to Common Ground.

The Family

Common Ground is our non profit organization focused on
"meeting people where they are and making
a difference in their lives".

We do that through special events, life coaching, books, public speaking and music. Our messages are inclusive and focused on the power that exists in love and an honest journey. We like to laugh a lot while we're at it.  Human beings are funny creatures so, we've got a lot of good material as we're groovin' along with two young boys and a full life.

Our heart is to encourage and leave people inspired
to know that "anything is possible in Love."

Dear Friends,

Happy End of Summer!  Are you taking deep breaths and enjoying friends and family?  We've heard over and over again, how this is a time for simplifying for many folks around us.

We wanted to give an update and make a request:

This last year, has been "interesting" and an "opportunity" for people to take stock in what matters most. Whether it's the way the economy has shifted or something that hit personally in life with relationships or jobs; we notice that it's a time of gratitude for the simpler things.

Sick_person.jpgIn our lives, Stacey's health hit a snag in October and continued on in a challenged place for months and then she collapsed in a store in June.  We've been in the process of a lot of doctor's visits mixed with natural remedies and forced rest.  For us, the priority of "health" is something that has struck us as a foundational building block - we're grateful for where we have it and working hard to restore it for Stacey.

How has our non-profit continued on in a time like this?  Actually, it's been pretty amazing and exciting because, through out all of our bumps, Common Ground has continued in the intention to impact people's lives.  We've continued counseling people out of the snares of pornography and coaching others in living free lives, as well as Stacey nearing the end of the writing for her first book.  We've taken on the intention this last year to "GIVE" and be an organization that supports other worthy causes as our main focus.  Here are some of those exciting ways:

In December, a church musician in another state, who had provided for his family through his music for years, was holding%20hands.jpggoing through severe depression and had blood clots in his lungs and throughout his body.  His life was literally on the line.  We rallied his friends and were able to give almost $1,800 to his family which helped them to keep their house, pay bills, and have a Christmas with their children. This man is in a complete turnaround, is performing again, rebuilding his family and his health and Common Ground got to be part of some practical encouragement for his family.  Woo hoo!

2009-0525%20041.jpgIn May, Irene Dunlap and Stacey, representing Common Ground, joined forces to put together a two-day event "A Harvest of Hope". www.aharvestofhope.com  It was a garden event featuring lectures from master gardeners on self-sustainability, square-foot gardening and healthy living while we also created and sold wares for the garden and home.  This event took months to plan and raised $9,000 and we were able to send the proceeds from our event to two organizations:  Feeding America (which provides food pantries all over the country with food) and ASAP (A Self-Help Assistance Program) in Zimbabwe which provides local villagers with the seeds and education to plant and harvest in a nation that has been starving to death.  We are planning on second event for next May.

In June, we teamed up with Dave and Laura Trotter who rallied a group of community to serve a widow in Lakewood who had lost her partner and was living in a grief that was showing up in her unattended home and yard.  We all came together to clean, donate monies for the dumpster and new supplies and flowers and new garden and we gave her home a face lift.  The smile on Cheryl's face was priceless as she looked around at these virtual 'strangers' become 'neighbors'.  She was being loved in 'real terms'.  To see more photos,

Darin%20and%20Stacey.jpg In July, we headed out to Arizona to record three podcast shows with Darin Hufford, author of "The Misunderstood God" and continue impacting audiences with the freedom message that is found in God's love.

family%20photo.jpg This past month, August, we have become friends with Kate and Johnny Brooks who have two orphan homes in Kenya.  They are a young couple in their mid-thirties with 4 children of their own (one more on the way) and 8 orphan girls as well as a home for boys.  They have gone days and weeks without water which is beyond comprehension with 20 people to feed, bathe and care for. We just raised almost $1,300 which will provide water for the next three months.

We feel so good about what we've done and are grateful for this direction!  Our desire is to give more and more and more.

What we haven't mentioned is that during all of this, we took no proceeds from any of these events.  It's also been a time where the giving to Common Ground has been impacted since people haven't been able to give in the same ways.

THE BOOK - Almost done!
the-shack.jpg
We are so excited to let you know that the impact of the messages of God's love that we've been committed to is taking its next step:

This past year, Stacey had a golden opportunity to submit her book proposal to the publishers of "The Shack".  The decision was made and we are working with these wonderful publishers for Stacey's book, "God Loves Me, I Think. . . Stories from Hell, Heaven and the Other Side of Texas."  The book will be completed in the next few months and then will be in editing/re-writes for the following months.
